Pookie discovers a birch tree

A few lines written on yesterday’s picnic at the park:

she is
just old enough
to find you curious
she pulls your bark away
in tiny bits
with chubby fingers
testing them on her tongue.
and I recall pulling
at raised bumps and cracked folds
as i hid from the world
in your branches.
her tender roots push
through earth
intertwined with yours
with mine, with me
and we are all together
across time and space

I used to write poetry all the time but stopped–I don’t know when or why…but if felt good to jot a few lines on the back of a crumpled receipt yesterday when muse struck.
